Crowdsourced Video from The Vaccines
The Vaccines and Sony Music are attempting to use the power of social media to create a video for their upcoming single, armchair. This innovative project will enable fans to provide a visual interpretation of the thrills, spills, and mud, associated with music festivals.
To contribute, fans can submit tagged photos to #vaccinesvideo via the photo sharing application Instagram. So far, over 700 pictures have been submitted, with all images being posted on an online gallery at vaccinesvideo.com.
Other artists, including Bjork, have also turned to crowdsourcing to produce music videos. For the single Innocence, Bjork launched a competition where fans could submit their own videos for the song. With over 400 entrants, the list was eventually whittled down to the best 11 videos.
Other crowdsourced musical projects include the recent social media campaign run by Dell and MTV, who invited their fans to submit webcam footage of themselves singing Lolipop by the Chordlettes.
The final production was so successful that the crowdsourced video also ran as Dells television commercial.
