New Instant Translation App Unveiled at TechCrunch Disrupt SF Conference

Instant speech to speech translation has, thus far, been an insurmountable hurdle for translation technology. However, the iOS exclusive Vocre app, which was presented at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, claims to be able to translate your speech directly into another language.

The latest language-based app certainly interested the experts and audiences alike, as it won both the TechCrunch Best Mobile App and the Audience Choice awards.

By speaking into the Smarthphone receiver, Vocre will translate your words on the spot, and then play them aloud in your target language. Therefore the application may not provide instant translations, but it may prove a more suitable alternative to the point and speak a bit lounder method employed by many Brits abroad.

Interestingly, Vocre claims to be more accurate than Google Translation by using crowd sourced learning technology. The aim is to provide users with a more natural, and less literal, translation of speech.

Currently, Vocre is slated as an iOS exclusive, with languages supported including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Chinese. You can get your first 10 translations for free, and then additional packs of 10 translations are $0.99.
