Obama’s State of the Union Address Translated by Crowdsourcing
In line with its coverage of the State of the Union Address on Tuesday night, NewsHour requested that its audience and the followers it has on their social media accounts to aid in translating the president’s speech using a free tool called Universal Subtitles.
These crowdsourced translations aim to make the news more widely accessible across the globe whilst providing people with the opportunity to interact with videos in novel ways.
“This is the beginning phase of turning video into something people never expected,” said Hari Sreenivasan, PBS NewsHour correspondent and director of digital partnerships. “It gives viewers an opportunity to be part of spreading content to more people, and gives public media organizations a way to engage with their communities in a deep and ongoing way.”
