However, if your company operates in other countries where a different language is spoken, it’s important to consider localisation of your SEO. This will help to ensure that your customers and potential customers can find your website when doing searches in their own tongue and on local search engines.

Carrying out a lucrative international SEO campaign requires far more than simply translating your existing website content.

Due to various cultural, economical, geographical or other reasons, people in other countries may be searching for different things for different purposes. That’s why it’s important to ensure that your international SEO campaign is carried out in a way that results in more than just a straightforward translation.

High-quality international SEO will examine things such as the popular search engines in a specific country and the algorithms they use to rank websites.

Those carrying out SEO should also integrate keyword research in order to understand the particular words and phrases that are used in an area. This includes being aware of alternative terminology such as slang, idioms, English hybrids and dialectical differences.

Keyword research for international SEO

This service is a research exercise to identify the highest searched and most lucrative keywords that a website in the target market should contain in order to rank highly in search engines such as Google, Bing, yahoo etc.

Our approach here is NOT simply based on translation or replication of a set of terms for the US market or demand for the US market… for this reason, we are able to reflect the full breadth of opportunity for each country clearly without cultural bias or assumption.

As well as our local resource and terminology knowledge we will also use a range of techniques such as competitor analysis to identify all possible terms.

Some of the following criteria are typical assessment points per keyword:

  • Local Search Volumes
  • Relevancy of keyword
  • Local Competition on each keyword

For each keyword you will receive:

  1. The Localised Search term (one per source keyword)
  2. The Search volumes
  3. The corresponding English translation (as will often differ to the source English keyword)

We will use the existing English keyword list as a basis for this research by translating foreign language alternatives, creating a keyword list based on an existing foreign language site, and/or creating a keyword list using an English site as reference. We will undertake research of the product or service the customer is offering to ensure that keywords are appropriate to the content.

Costings are provided per keyword.

PPC translation

Translation of PPC ads require some special treatment compared to normal translation services. We ensure that the translated ads adhere to the strict character limits:

  • 25 characters for the heading
  • 35 characters for description lines 1 & 2
  • 35 characters for the display URL

This requires some creativity on the part of the translator to adhere to the character limits.

If keyword research has been carried out at the same time as the PPC ads, these will be taken into consideration when translating the ads too.

Costings for this are per ad copy.

Metadata optimisation

This involves optimising web page metadata with the keywords identified in the keyword research, including the page title, a 150 character description and a list of keywords that the page is targeting.

Optimised translation of web content

Once the localised Keywords are generated we can optimise any web pages to be localised into Italian to include as many of these terms as possible. This would be included along with the translation phase of any web content to be translated at a later date.
